our design is all about making you feel at home
The child service centre ‘de Twinkeling’ in Horst, the Netherlands, is a day care for multiply handicapped children.
For the sake of the children we wanted a particular and recognisable building. Which led to an expressive and playful dichotomy: The administrative structure of the building rests on huge rocks in which the children’s bedrooms are located, both being supported by them and embracing them.
The main hall made a connection to the courtyard, the upper floor and is a central meeting point for all kind of activities
We designed special playful places to make the plan friendly in orientation and feeling

The new VMBO school in Hengelo is inspired by the local conditions and context. The design, co-created with GAF, was guided by the school's location on the border between the city and the countryside. Therefore, the plan is divided to respond to each setting: the urban side is used for practice, while the nature/landscape side is used for learning and expression. Bridging the two is a multi-level connector space that is typically filled with kids, noise, and movement. Function follows form, follows location.

We translated the wish to make a rich interior with a sober facade into a valley of education with the staircase as an waterfall connecting the library, canteen, the podium and arts and science.

The Child Service Centre in Hartekamp is a healthy, comfortable and playful environment for disabled children and their parents. Such a project requires creativity but it is also about responsibility: artistry and functionality go hand in hand. Inspired by its location, just behind the dunes , we made an artificial roofscape, which gave the building its unique experience.

Children have limitless imagination.
We have created in a building in Delfshaven, Rotterdam, a 'town' for children; their own world. We want to help stimulate the curiosity, the inquisitiveness and creativity of the children.

Not often old school buildings are completely demolished for new construction. We have given new life to an old depreciated school building by creating a glass greenhouse in the heart of the building and made it completely energy neutral by means of solar energy and heat pumps.
