OpZeeZand

OpZeezand is a multifunctional work building with an inspiring impact on the surroundings in north Amsterdam. It has become a hotspot for different kinds of innovative companies. The mix in functions, the routing and the common spaces create a synergy between the different users creating unexpected events. OpZeezand goes beyond the original thought and has its own character. You like it or dislike it. Happily most people like it very much, a no nonsense approach in Amsterdam.

VMBO Hengelo

The new VMBO school in Hengelo is inspired by its local conditions and context. The design, in co-creation with DJGA is guided by its location, on the border between the city and the landscape. The plan is therefor divided to respond to each setting: the urban side is used for practice and the landscape side is used for learning and expression. Dividing the two runs a multi level connector space bridged with kids, noise and movement.
Function follows form.

The Art Shop

In close collaboration with the sculpture store, we transformed an old peugeot garage into a store room, studios, woodworking and stone sawmills.
The tight garage space is complemented by sloping walls creating a natural layout between the different spaces.

Twinkeling

The child service centre ‘de Twinkeling’ in Horst, the Netherlands, is a day care for multiply handicapped children.
For the sake of the children we wanted a particular and recognisable building. Which led to an expressive and playful dichotomy: The administrative structure of the building rests on huge rocks in which the children’s bedrooms are located, both being supported by them and embracing them.

DIY Loft

Located in a former School which was transformed into apartments shells where the buyer has the free reign to choose and make their own interior. A young couple bought one of them and asked us to design their house and provide them with the maximum space. We were astonished by the overwhelming volume of the empty shell, so we’ve combined the two: creating defined space whilst still keeping a feel for the wonderful emptiness of its volume.

The Barn

In an old barn in the middle of Scharendijke, a small village in Zeeland, we designed a completely modern apartment, whilst maintaining its historic façades. The apartment can be easily split into two fully functional parts during summertime: one for the owner, and on the upper floor one for tourists.

Houseboat

The most unexpected of Dutch houses are found in the water. For a private cliënt we redesigned their floating house in the centre of Amsterdam. They asked for an inventive and challenging solution: creating privacy towards the street and in the same time provide the best relationship with the water. The curved roof combines the two: bringing the best quality of living to the fore, whilst creating intimacy with a magnificent view over the water.

Pavillion

FAC331

The Temporary Contemporary board room table commissioned by Tony Wilson for Factory Records in Manchester. Totally legless, suspended in mid-air by tensioned cables running form floor to ceiling. “Make me a table where it’s impossible to sit and have long meetings at, and that also makes me go Wow” – Job done.
